Dental Crowns -- December 30, 2014

From the acid corrosion caused by the food you eat to the constant biting, crunching and grinding you do when eating or stressed, daily activities weaken your teeth and make them more susceptible to decay, cracks, discoloration and more. If any of your teeth reach a point where they become so weak or decayed that the tooth structure becomes compromised, a crown can be used to protect and reinforce it. By covering a weak or broken tooth and restoring it to its original size and shape, a crown reduces pain and saves the tooth from needing to be extracted. At our office in Port Orchard, WA, we can see if a crown is necessary to save your smile.

When a crown is installed at Family Dental Care, Dr. K. Singh first removes the decay from the tooth and uses a core build-up to insulate the tooth nerve and create a surface for bonding the crown to. An impression is then made of this surface so that crown can be custom fitted. Then the crown is fabricated in a lab, a process that can take between two to three weeks. Once it is fabricated, Dr. Singh will cement the crown onto the tooth.

Usually made of porcelain or porcelain fused to metal, dental crowns are made incredibly strong to protect the remaining tooth structure, and the custom fit ensures that the seam between tooth and crown is miniscule, which helps protect the tooth from further decay.

If you’re experiencing pain in one of your teeth, stop by our office to see if a crown can save your smile. Schedule an appointment by calling 360-874-6846.

Veneers -- December 17, 2014

If you’re unhappy with the way your smile looks, you don’t have to live with it. Veneers are an effective method for reshaping and redesigning your smile in Port Orchard, WA. Whether your teeth have gaps, persistent stains, cracks, chips or other issues, these thin, porcelain shells can cover the existing tooth structure in your mouth to give you a smile you will be proud to show off.

Having veneers placed usually only takes two to three visits to our office. During the first visit, you will discuss the shape and look of the smile you want to accomplish with Dr. K. Singh. Then the dentist will prepare your teeth for the upcoming veneers.

Once the enamel has been prepared, an impression will be taken of your mouth so that the veneers can be fabricated to fit over your existing teeth. Once they are completed, the veneers are bonded to your teeth to create an attractive smile that both looks good and feels natural. With proper home care and the help of Dr. Singh, you can enjoy your new smile for 5 to 10 years before the veneers should be replaced.

Teeth Whitening -- December 9, 2014

Even with diligent brushing, flossing and cleaning, keeping your teeth white is harder than you might think. Despite proper oral care, constant exposure to food and drinks can cause your teeth to become dull and darken over time. Teeth whitening can help restore the color and gleam to your teeth, and at our office in Port Orchard, WA, we provide teeth whitening services that can restore your smile to a bright white state.

Teeth whitening services are becoming more and more popular, and as the demand for whiter teeth increases, patients are realizing that over-the-counter techniques just aren’t as effective as options offered by their dentist. At our office, whitening procedures are becoming one of the most requested services, and Dr. K. Singh offers an effective way for his patients to meet their goals. The method that we use to whiten patients’ teeth is the take-home tray system. Using gentle, whitening gel applied in trays that are custom made to fit their teeth, patients can whiten their smile four to eight shades in only a couple sessions.

Whitening your teeth is an easy and dramatic way to improve the look of your smile. If you are looking to make your pearly whites white again, schedule an appointment with Family Dental Care by calling 360-874-6846.

Sealants -- December 4, 2014

Although brushing and flossing are effective cleaning techniques for removing food particles and plaque from the smooth surfaces of our teeth, sometimes these methods are ineffective at thoroughly cleaning the nooks and crannies in our premolars and molars. Because molars are the hardest to clean and the teeth most used in the chewing process, they are the most susceptible to cavities and decay. This is why we recommend sealants soon after molars emerge when children are between the ages of 6 and 14.

Dental sealants are a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing surfaces of the molars to prevent cavities and tooth decay. The sealant is applied by Dr. K. Singh, who first roughens the surface of the molar with acid and then paints on the sealant. The sealant bonds into the depressions and grooves of the teeth, hardening and forming a shield over the enamel to protect it for approximately 10 years.

Sealants are normally applied to children’s molars because their teeth are especially susceptible to cavities. However, sometimes they are applied to adult molars if they have hard-to-clean grooves that are causing cavities.

I nvisalign -- November 19, 2014

Among the many orthodontic treatments offered in our Port Orchard, WA family dental practice, Invisalign is one of the most highly requested. With Invisalign, clear plastic aligners are worn to straighten the teeth and improve bite problems, such as overbites and underbites. Invisalign braces are similar to traditional braces in straightening teeth, though they can be removed and are practically invisible to others.

The procedure for getting Invisalign starts with impressions of the teeth to make the first set of aligners. Dr. K. Singh instructs the patient to wear the aligners at all times, except when eating or brushing their teeth. A new set of aligners are made about every 2-4 weeks, which work just like tightening wires of traditional braces. Mild to moderate spacing, crowding and bite issues can be corrected with Invisalign.

If you want to have braces that are more comfortable and less conspicuous, consider getting Invisalign. To find out if this is a good option for you, call 516-233-2135 to discuss Invisalign and the many benefits.

Implant Placement Restoration -- October 28, 2014

There are many options to fill the space left behind when you lose a tooth. Dental implants have the greatest potential to be a permanent solution available for replacing missing teeth. Implants are widely considered the modern-day solution to missing teeth as they provide an aesthetically pleasing, potentially permanent answer to a serious problem. At our practice in Port Orchard, WA, Dr. K. Singh provides dental implant procedures to help restore and fix our patients bite after implant surgery.

Apart from the cosmetic issues, those who have missing teeth will often suffer from compromised chewing efficiency and tooth drifting. The space left behind from a missing tooth causes the other teeth to drift into that space which can lead to misaligned teeth. When teeth become misaligned, they become more difficult to clean, creating areas around the teeth that can collect bacteria. This can cause gum disease and or tooth decay that may eventually lead to additional tooth loss if left untreated.

Receiving a dental implant is a surgical procedure and patients may or may not be put under a general anesthetic. A dental surgeon will make an incision into the patients gum line where they will insert the implant. The implant will be secured into the bone where it will need to sit for three to six months so the bone can grow around it, this process is called osseointegration. After the surgery, patients will visit Dr. Singh to receive a crown over the implant. This is done so your teeth do not drift and you can eat normally. Once the implant is secured, Dr. Singh will place an abutment on top of the exposed implant that will support a crown. Dental implants have the greatest potential to be a permanent solution to missing teeth.

Emergency Dental -- October 21, 2014

There are a variety of factors that can cause pain in your teeth. While tooth decay is the most common cause for children and adults, infections, gum disease, facial trauma, teeth grinding and an abnormal bite can also be factors. If you have experienced pain in your teeth for more than two days or have swelling and abnormally red gums, it is important to get a complete oral examination to determine the cause. Persistent or severe pain is considered a dental emergency, and Dr. K. Singh can help alleviate your pain and restore your oral health immediately.

You won't always know why you are experiencing pain in your teeth. Sometimes tooth pain can come on suddenly if pieces of food come in contact with a decayed area of your tooth or if heat or cold create pressure near your nerve. Additionally, losing a filling or crown can expose your nerve and cause pain. If your pain worsens over time, you may have food that is stuck between you tooth and gum. This can occur if you do not brush and floss well enough, allowing bacteria to multiply in this area and for infection to develop. This infection can then develop into an abscess, which develops at the root of the tooth in the bone or the gums. If not treated, it can be incredibly painful and harmful to your health. If your tooth pain is accompanied by a bad smell or taste, it is very likely an abscess.

Whichever the cause of your pain, you shouldn’t try to ignore it, especially if is persistent or severe. Dr. Singh can provide you the emergency dental care you need. To learn more about these emergency dental procedures call 360-874-6846a> to schedule an appointment with Dr. K. Singh at our practice in Port Orcharcha, WA.
